Ultimate Abilities are usually the strongest side of any Valorant Agent. However, their use is usually not all that simple.
So, as you may have already guessed, this guide will be all about Ultimate Abilities in Valorant. We will look at the topic from all sides, first explaining what they are, how you can get them, and when to use them. Then, we will see all the available Ultimate Abilities and explain how they work. Without further ado, let's start!
What are Ultimate Abilities in Valorant
Each Valorant Agent has an ability kit with the Ultimate Ability, which is generally the most powerful ability in the entire kit. Unlike other abilities, you can't use it until you collect a required amount of Ult points. Once you collect a required amount of ult points, you can use your Ultimate Ability once, and then you will have to collect the same amount again.
How To Get Ult Points
You can collect Ult points by performing the following actions:
- Capturing Ultimate Orbs
- Scoring kills
- Dying
- Planting a Spike
- Defusing a Spike (half-defuse also counts)
When To Use Ultimate Abilities
Usually, you don't want to wait too long with using your Ultimate Ability, as collecting the required amount of Ult points is usually not as hard as it may seem. However, does that mean that you should use your Ultimate Ability as soon as you get it? Well, while this could be the case with some Agents, we think the perfect solution is somewhere in the middle.
That said, you want to use your Ultimate Abilities relatively fast to not miss the value on Ult points, but you still want to ensure that you can gain some actual advantage with it. Even if it's not going to give you a couple of kills, maybe it can help your teammate or buy you some time, and that still will be good. Ultimate Abilities do not always have to be super flashy, but in the right hands, they can pretty much always generate some kind of value.
All Ultimate Abilities in Valorant Explained
So now, we will look at all the Ultimate Abilities in Valorant! We will check out how they look in-game, some stats and brief descriptions of how they all work so you can have a better understanding of when to use them!
Brimstone Ultimate Ability: Orbital Strike
Official Orbital Strike ability description: EQUIP a tactical map. FIRE to launch a lingering orbital strike laser at the selected location, dealing high damage-over-time to players caught in the selected area.
Cost | 7 Ult points |
Cast Range | 60 meters max |
Maximum Damage | about 450 |
Radius | 9 meters |
Duration | 3 seconds |
Brimstone's Orbital Strike is one of the most effective Ultimate Abilities in the game, especially when you know exactly where your enemies could be; it can be a surefire way to claim some free kills. But even if you don't know where they are, this ability can still be super strong; for instance, if you have a Spike planted, you can use the Orbital Strike to stop other players from defusing it, even without knowing where the enemies are pushing from. Most importantly, the laser deals damage to all characters in it at the same rate, but total damage dealt depends on location within the area.
Viper Ultimate Ability: Viper's Pit
Official Viper's Pit ability description: EQUIP a chemical sprayer. FIRE to spray a chemical cloud in all directions around Viper, creating a large cloud that reduces the vision range of players and maximum health of enemies inside of it. HOLD the ability key to disperse the cloud early.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Radius | 9 meters max |
Deploy Time | 6 seconds |
Viper's Pit is basically a thick, smoky cloud that acts as a vision blocker for anyone (except Viper) that finds themselves inside it. Once enemies step into the Viper's Pit, they will be inflicted with a Toxin debuff and suffer a gradual decrease in HP; however, their health restores when they leave the area.
Omen Ultimate Ability: From The Shadows
Official From The Shadows ability description: EQUIP a tactical map. FIRE to begin teleporting to the selected location. While teleporting, Omen will appear as a Shade that can be destroyed by an enemy to cancel his teleport, or PRESS EQUIP for Omen to cancel his teleport.
Cost | 7 Ult points |
Duration | 4 seconds |
From The Shadows is a teleport that allows Omen to travel to any location on the map. Yeah, it seems pretty strong, but what is also worth mentioning is that the enemy team is unable to see their radar while the ability is active. The only disadvantage is that the enemy can destroy the teleport by eliminating his shade, but if you expect that to happen, you can cancel the teleport anytime you want.
Killjoy Ultimate Ability: Lockdown
Official Lockdown ability description: EQUIP the Lockdown device. FIRE to deploy the device. After a long windup, the device detains all enemies caught in the radius. The device can be destroyed by enemies.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Windup time | 13 seconds |
Radius | 32.5 meters |
Detain duration | 8 seconds |
Lockdown is a Crowd Control ability based on Killjoy deploying a device that creates a spherical area of effect and begins to wind up. After a wind-up, the Lockdown device detains any enemies that find themselves in it for 8 seconds. During this period, their movement is significantly limited, but most importantly, they are unable to use any weapons or abilities.
Cypher Ultimate Ability: Neural Theft
Official Neural Theft ability description: INSTANTLY use on a dead enemy player in your crosshairs to reveal the location of all living enemy players.
Cost | 6 Ult points |
Cast distance | 18 meters max |
Cypher's Ultimate Ability is basically a temporary wallhack that you can trigger by hovering over a dead enemy player. Pretty straightforward one; it might not be the strongest Ultimate Ability in the game, but it is still pretty useful as a tool to gather quick intel.
Sova Ultimate Ability: Hunter's Fury
Official Hunter's Fury ability description: EQUIP a bow with three long-range, wall-piercing energy blasts. FIRE to release an energy blast in a line in front of Sova, dealing damage and revealing the location of enemies caught in the line. This ability can be RE-USED up to two more times while the ability timer is active.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Ammo | 3 charges |
Windup time (per charge) | 1 second |
Duration | 6 seconds max |
Damage | 80 |
Reveal Duration | 1 second |
Hunter's Fury ability is pretty much a bow with 3 charges that reveal and damage enemy players. Upon firing the blast, Sova will push himself back a few meters directly in the opposite direction he fired the blast in. Hunter's Fury has a limited duration, and Sova will be forced to unequip the bow if he has not used all the available charges in time.
Sage Ultimate Ability: Resurrection
Official Resurrection ability description: EQUIP a resurrection ability. FIRE with your crosshairs placed over a dead ally to begin resurrecting them. After a brief channel, the ally will be brought back to life with full health.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Cast distance | 6 meters max |
Windup time | 2 seconds |
Revive duration | 1.3 seconds |
Sage's Resurrection ability (also known as Revive) is probably the most straightforward ability in the entire game. All you have to do to cast it is hover a crosshair over a dead ally and simply resurrect him with 100 HP and no shields. However, the revival preparation time is 1.3 seconds, during which the target is vulnerable and can be attacked by enemies.
Phoenix Ultimate Ability: Run It Back
Official Run It Back ability description: INSTANTLY place a marker at Phoenix's location. While this ability is active, dying or allowing the timer to expire will end this ability and bring Phoenix back to this location with full health and the amount of armor he had when the ability was cast.
Cost | 6 Ult points |
Duration | 10 seconds |
Revive Duration | 2.4 seconds total |
After you use Run It Back, you place a marker at a location you currently are that you will teleport back to 10 seconds after the ability activation with full health and no shields. Most importantly, after you die, you will also teleport to the marker's location!
This ability is particularly useful when attempting to execute a key push, allowing Phoenix to find out if any enemies are concealed on the site after a bomb is planted. It is also essential to be mindful that opponents may rotate to Phoenix's re-spawn spot and take him out when he reappears. Therefore, it is essential to put the re-spawn point in a location that is covered and secure.
Jett Ultimate Ability: Blade Storm
Official Blade Storm ability description: EQUIP a set of highly accurate throwing knives. FIRE to throw a single knife and recharge knives on a kill. ALTERNATE FIRE to throw all remaining daggers but does not recharge on a kill.
Cost | 7 Ult points |
Damage | 150 (Headshot), 50 (Body), 37 (Legs) |
Ammo | 5 Blades |
Recharge time | 0.5 seconds |
Jett's Ultimate Ability equips you with five throwable knives with great accuracy. By pressing the "Fire key" (Left Mouse Button), you can throw them one at a time, or press the "Alternate Fire key" (Right Mouse Button) to throw them all simultaneously. Your aim with knives remains accurate while using this ability, and there is no recoil to worry about.
Reyna Ultimate Ability: Empress
Official Empress ability description: INSTANTLY enter a frenzy, increasing firing, equip and reload speed dramatically. Gain infinite charges of Soul Harvest abilities. When an enemy dies to Reyna, or dies within 3 seconds of taking damage from Reyna, the duration is renewed.
Cost | 6 Ult points |
Windup | 1 second |
Duration | 30 seconds |
Buffs | Weapon equip speed (+25%), Fire rate (+15%), Heal speed (+25%), Reload speed (+25%) |
Empress is pretty much a big ability kit booster for Reyna. It gives Reyna some big buffs and alters her two orb-focused abilities; Devour (Q) is automatically cast and heals Reyna when Empress is active, and Dismiss (E) turns Reyna invisible and intangible for 2 seconds when used. Using Empress combined with Reyna's other abilities can create a deadly combination, allowing her to become an unstoppable force and rule the battlefield (just like she does in Valorant's Lore Story).
Raze Ultimate Ability: Showstopper
Official Showstopper ability description: EQUIP a rocket launcher. FIRE shoots a rocket that does massive area damage on contact with anything.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Duration | 10 seconds max |
Equip time | 1.4 seconds |
Damage | min 30, max 150 |
So yeah, this "here comes the party" bazooka is lethal. After you activate it, your Raze will have 10 seconds to shoot, and no other weapons or abilities are allowed during this time. If you know where your enemies could be, you can shoot the bazooka nearby and possibly score a few frags, just like that. Yeah, madness.
Breach Ultimate Ability: Rolling Thunder
Official Rolling Thunder ability description: EQUIP a seismic charge. FIRE to send a cascading quake through all terrain in a large cone. The quake dazes and knocks up anyone caught in it.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Equip time | 1.1 seconds |
Concussion duration | 6 seconds |
Rolling Thunder is one of the most annoying Ultimates in the game. This ability not only concusses your enemies for 6 seconds, but also pushes them back 7 meters, so it could be easier to catch them off guard and score a couple of kills. This is especially broken on maps like Fracture or Ascent, which Breach players surely love.
Skye Ultimate Ability: Seekers
Official Seekers ability description: EQUIP a Seeker trinket. FIRE to send out three Seekers to track down the three closest enemies. If a Seeker reaches its target, it nearsights them.
Cost | 7 Ult points |
Seeker health | 150 HP |
Blind duration | 3 seconds |
Slow debuff duration | 5 seconds |
Skye's Ultimate Ability spawns trinkets that find the shortest path to each enemy, and once they get to them, they kind of work as a flashbang. It is a great ability to gather intel, and you can really use it in any situation, as it is almost always annoying to play against. However, these Seekers are easily destroyable, so you will often have to follow them (or ask your teammates to do so) to get the best possible value out of this ability.
Yoru Ultimate Ability: Dimensional Drift
Official Dimensional Drift ability description: EQUIP a mask that can see between dimensions. FIRE to drift into Yoru's dimension, unable to be affected or seen by enemies from the outside.
Cost | 7 Ult points |
Equip time | 0.8 seconds |
Duration | 12 seconds |
Dimensional Drift is a great way to play mind games with the enemy team. This is that one ability that players hate, as it allows Yoru to get behind them without beeing seen, plus you can also use your entire ability kit while using it! However, everyone can hear your footsteps and see a blue "aura" when you are close to them, so keep that in mind.
Astra Ultimate Ability: Cosmic Divide
Official Cosmic Divide ability description: When Cosmic Divide is charged, use SECONDARY FIRE in Astral Form to begin aiming it, then PRIMARY FIRE to select two locations. An infinite Cosmic Divide connects the two points you select. Cosmic Divide blocks bullets and heavily dampens audio.
Cost | 7 Ult points |
Duration | 21 seconds |
Astra's Ultimate Ability creates a purple wall that divides the map, simple as that. The wall will block bullets and dampen the audio for everyone and lasts for 21 seconds. It requires a lot of map knowledge and skill to use effectively, which is one of the reasons why Astra is one of the hardest Valorant Agents to play.
KAY/O Ultimate Ability: NULL/cmd
Official NULL/cmd ability description: INSTANTLY overload with polarized radianite energy that pulses from KAY/O in a massive radius. Enemies hit with pulses are suppressed for a short duration. While overloaded, KAY/O gains combat stim and can be re-stabilized if downed.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Duration | 12 seconds |
Buffs | Fire rate (+15%), Reload speed (+10%), Recovery speed (+10%) |
Supression debuff duration | 4 seconds |
Downed | 15 seconds |
Health while downed | 850 HP |
Stabilization time | 3 seconds |
Yup, this ability is plenty of buffs. When used, KAY/O generates a magnetic field with a range of 42.5 meters every 3 seconds, disabling all opponents' abilities for 4 seconds. If killed, KAY/O can be revived if one of your teammates stands by to reset you; however, if not reset within 15 seconds, KAY/O will die. And of course, enemies can play around the reset by dealing 850 damage to the downed KAY/O, causing him to die.
Chamber Ultimate Ability: Tour de Force
Official Tour de Force ability description: ACTIVATE to summon a powerful, custom sniper rifle that will kill an enemy with any direct hit to the upper body. Killing an enemy creates a lingering field that slows players caught inside of it.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Damage | 150 |
Fire rate | 1 per 1.333 seconds (Primary) / 1 per 1.667 seconds (Scoped) |
Ammo | 5 bullets |
Tour de Force is basically an Operator on steroids. Not only it shoots faster than it, but it also creates a slowing field after every kill. Moreover, with this weapon, you always score a frag regardless of where you hit, making it perfect for one-way smokes.
Neon Ultimate Ability: Overdrive
Official Overdrive ability description: Unleash Neon's full power and speed for a short duration. FIRE to channel the power into a deadly lightning beam with high movement accuracy.
Cost | 7 Ult points | |
Damage | 18 (0-20 meters), 18-10 (20-42 meters), 10 (43+ meters) | |
Ammo | 40 (one magazine) | |
Fire rate | 20 per second |
Neon's Ultimate Ability pretty much allows you to kill your enemies with the use of your finger, and it's very similar to Jett's Blade Storm, as it's super accurate. Activating this ability will give you 20-second boost with a lightning beam which can kill an enemy with 4 "zaps".
Damage dealt is the same regardless of body part hit, and the factor that affects amount of damage dealt is distance. This ability uses Neon's energy meter, and it goes relatively fast. However, it gets refreshed after every kill you score, so you can really dominate the round with it.
Fade Ultimate Ability: Nightfall
Official Nightfall ability description: EQUIP the power of nightmare itself. FIRE to unleash a wave of unstoppable nightmare energy. Enemies caught in the wave are marked by terror trails, deafened, and decayed.
Cost | 8 Ult points |
Area size | Lenght: 40 meters, Width: 24 meters |
Deafen and mark duration | 12 seconds |
Tick rate | (10 ticks total) 1 every 0.355 seconds |
Decay stats | 75 HP (restores at 6.25 HP per second) |
Fade's Nightfall ability sends out a wave of dark mist, applying 3 debuffs on any enemy Agents. These debuffs are Deafen, Trail, and Decay and they all last 12 seconds, which is quite a lot. Of course, you want to try to hit as many enemies as you can, but to make sure that happens, you need to use your other abilities (such as Haunt) or communicate with your teammates for a useful intel.
Harbor Ultimate Ability: Reckoning
Official Reckoning ability description: EQUIP the full power of your Artifact. FIRE to summon a geyser pool on the ground. Enemy players in the area are targeted by successive geyser strikes. Players caught within a strike are CONCUSSED.
Cost | 7 Ult points |
Cast location | 24 meters |
Radius | 21.25 meters |
Pool duration | 9 seconds |
Strikes | 3 strikes with a rate of 1 every 3 seconds |
Concuss radius | 4.5 meters |
Concuss duration | 2 seconds |
By activating this ability, you generate a massive pool with geysers that erupt and concuss any enemy in them. Reckoning is great for taking ground quickly, and forcing enemies to reposition, making it similar to tools such as Brimstone's Orbital Strike or Killjoy's Lockdown.
