It's safe to say that Raze is the most explosive agent in Valorant. Her abilities are one of the reasons why she can carry that title, but her playstyle can also be described with the same term. This agent is a must-play for Duelists that have their adrenaline high up in the sky, and love putting bodies to their count list.

Raze Abilities Explained

Her abilities are very straightforward and reading this guide and playing a game right after it will be more than enough to learn how they work. But this simple ability kit doesn't mean that her skill cap is low, on the contrary, there are a fair bit of things that will differentiate a Raze main, and a Raze "casual".

C Ability: Boom Bot (Cost: 300 Credits, Charges: 1)

Her first ability is a very good scouting tool that she can use to limit her exposure when doing the entries on sites. Boom bot is a robot-bot, that once cast goes in a straight line with the goal to find any enemy Agent in its vicinity. It can bounce off of walls so you will need to do some calculations to get the best of its route.

Once it notices an enemy in its frontal cone it locks onto them, chases them, and then explodes in front of them. The Bot's route can last up to 10 seconds, it has 100 HP meaning that if the enemies focus it, they can kill it. The damage upon explosion depends on the radius and can vary from 30 to 80 Damage. Meaning that if an enemy is caught at the far end of the radius it will do a minimum of 30 damage, and 80 to the nearest one.

Q Ability: Blast Pack (Cost: 200 Credits, Charges: 2)

Blast pack or commonly known as "Satchel" is an ability that requires a lot of practice to use in the best way possible. The Satchel latches onto the surface that it gets thrown to and will explode after 5 seconds, or earlier if you wish to activate it by clicking the ability hotkey again. Once detonated it does initial damage (enemies only), which will vary depending on the radius. From 5-15 Damage (Instant damage), 20-50 upon arming, and 600 Damage to objects.

This ability is rarely used for its damage since its main perk is the movement boost. Upon explosion, it will "blow" you away from its opposite direction.

This is a very good tool to:

  • Jump walls
  • Get to a certain position you can't normally reach
  • Get the high ground advantage towards your enemy which is vital when using your ultimate, but we will get back to that later.

Signature Ability: Paint Shells (2 kills = recharge)

For all of you FPS gamers, this ability will be the most familiar of them all. Even though the name of the ability isn't recognizable, paint shells are basically modified grenades which is common in CS:GO, COD, and other similar FPS classics. We all know how Riot loves to make the best of every aspect of the game, and they made sure this grenade is as explosive as it can get.

Once this grenade is thrown it detonates and has 2 types of damage: One is the main damage (upon impact), and the other comes from the sub-munitions that explode after the initial explosion.

Same as her other 2 abilities, the damage on this grenade also depends on the radius, or to be more precise 15-55 damage from its minimum outer radius to its maximum inner radius. Make sure to take care as this ability can damage your allies as well.

Ultimate (X) Ability: Showstopper

Remember when we said that Raze's ability kit is explosive? If her signature ability is an advanced grenade, it's only fair if Riot gave her an advanced "Bazooka" to top it all off. Once used, Showstopper gives Raze a Rocket Launcher that does massive damage on impact. Once equipped you have 10 seconds to unleash this deadly missile that will do 30 to 150 damage depending on how far the target is from the missile.

Bonus trick: After shooting the "Showstopper" Raze will get thrown back a bit, so let that play with your creativity and imagination in those tense moments.

Like Paint Shells, Showstopper can also damage your allies, so use caution. Raze mains take a lot of their time training on this ability as it has a lot of ways of using it. The video below is what peak enjoyment and performance is on this ability.

How To Attack With Raze

Her playstyle on the offensive is pretty straightforward. Duelists can be played in many possible ways, mostly depending on their abilities. Given that Raze doesn't have any abilities that will mess with the enemy's vision, lurking isn't really her best playing style. One-on-ones are also not her thing as she's basically missing the key aspects in terms of her ability to have the advantage against the enemy agent.

What we're looking at is a Duelist that will stick to their team, use her abilities upfront, and let your team push ahead with you. Your Boom bot is a very good tool to know what is ahead of you, so before any push don't hesitate to use it to check corners or vulnerable spots leading to the entry sites. If you're afraid of the usual camping spots it's completely fine to throw your paint shells and make your enemy take damage, or relocate to another spot.

How To Defend With Raze

Raze is not the worst duelist to defend sites, and can be used to both defend and retake them. Boom bot can be used to slow down the enemy pushes, and when defending any information is more than welcome. Tricky plays can be done with your satchel as you can get to spots the enemies won't dare to check. Defending and Attacking is similar to her as it's not recommended to lurk with Raze but instead be in the line of fire next to your sentinels or controllers.

It's safe to say Raze's team is the favorite to win this year's World Cup.

The Best Maps For Raze

Split

Even though Split has been taken off from the Map Rotation, it's good to add Split has one of her best Maps as eventually Split will be thrown back into the rotation pool, and you should know that Raze is a FAVE on Split.

This map is by far the best map for Raze, and it's common to see duelists just insta pick her on this map. Split as a map is slightly favored for the Defenders, and most of the toll on the Attacking side drops on the Duelists. If you don't take mid on Split you are almost always having a tough time entering the sites. This is exactly what Raze excels in, and loves doing. This map has a lot of ways of entering Mid, and Raze's inability to smoke/blind or have any flashy abilities makes her a viable Agent on this map, compared to the others.

Fracture

Similar to Split, Fracture also has the perk of easily rotating from side to side, which makes Raze a viable duelist as she is very slow in her rotations. Lurking isn't a thing in Fracture, and you will rarely meet one-on-one as the meta forces you to push together with your team (even in lower rank). Being explosive and doing chaos on the sites is a much-wanted and rewarding playstyle in this map, which is why we put Fracture as one of Raze's top maps to play on.

Bind

We've reached the third Raze map, and if you've got a little bit more than the average knowledge about this map, you can see where we are heading with our picks. Bind is yet another map where rotations are fast and easy due to the fact the map is small but also has teleports. Bind has a lot of choke points which can be cleared with a Boom Bot or a Grenade which makes pushing with Raze a lot easier than with other duelists.
